Almeda Joan (Merrill) Shoemaker, 79, Greenfield, passed into the arms of her heavenly Father on Tuesday, August 27, 2024. Joan was born on October 1, 1944, in Sheridan, IN, to Fred and Pauline (Summitt) Merrill. She married Harvey Shoemaker on January 1, 1965.
Joan worked at Regency Electronics on their assembly lines for over 20 years. Thereafter, Joan earned her nursing degree from Ivy Tech and practiced at Brickyard Brandywine nursing facility for many years before retiring. As she quickly became bored after retirement, she returned to Brickyard and started working as an activity assistant for a few years. Joan was a faithful woman and could be seen reading from her bible daily. She attended bible studies, praised the Lord, and spread his word to all. She attended Park Chapel Church. Joan loved to cross-stitch, crochet, work in the yard, watch political TV, listen to Elvis, Neil Diamond, Michael Jackson and The Gaithers, and go out to eat, especially at MCL. She loved her pets to the fullest. She and Harvey also loved to camp and travel.
Joan is survived by her nieces, Tammy (Don) Ridder and Pam Barefoot and nephews, Jeff Perry and Bruce Perry.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harvey of 43 years; infant child; sister; and many beloved dogs.
