Alberta Viola Gardner

Alberta V. Gardner, age 82, of New Castle passed away Monday, December 28, 2020 at Addison Place, New Castle. She was born November 18, 1938 to the late Richard M. and Almeda (Kingery) Whiteside and raised by Clarence and Lucille Jonas. Alberta was a 1956 graduate of Greenfield High School. In her career, Alberta was a cook at Brandywine Elementary School, an assistant at Minnesota Title, and worked as a bookkeeper in Hancock County government offices. In her spare time, Alberta enjoyed reading, jigsaw puzzles, word searches and electronic games on her Kindle. Above all, she was the ultimate Colts football fan. Alberta is survived by her children, Dena (Mike) Thornburg and Richard (Brenda) Gardner; sister, Katie Allen; and granddaughter, Michelle Thornburg. She is preceded in death by her parents, mentioned above; husband, Donn Gardner; daughter, Shannon Wild; and 6 siblings. A private family service will be held locally with a Celebration of Life Service to be held in the future.
