Benjamin John Ryan

May 24, 1943 — May 20, 2024

Benjamin John Ryan, 80, Kennard, passed away on Monday, May 20, 2024. He was born on May 24, 1943, in Steuben County, IN to Willard and Elma (Sindel) Ryan.

John, as most knew him, was a quiet, simple, and humble man. He lived half of his life in the small town of Kennard. John moved to Kennard shortly after the town experienced an F5 tornado and as volunteers were needed to reshape the town, he did not hesitate. Most in the small community became aware of who John was and welcomed him with open arms. He was Town Board President for 8 years. While on the Board, he was instrumental in completing a 1 ¼ mile walking trail as well as obtaining federal grants for sewer lines and sidewalks. John attended every town board meeting for 30 years. John also worked for the sewer department for 15 years, mowing grass and working on equipment. He was helpful to fellow neighbors, often responding to their needs with an open heart and graciousness. John's faith was extremely important to him. So much, he taught Bible study to prison inmates. John was also owner/operator in the trucking industry.

He is survived by his children: Christy (Tom) Adkins, Steve (Dara) Ryan, and Todd Ryan; 14 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and siblings, Dennis Ryan, Shari (Jerry) Ranney, and Margaret.

John was preceded in death by his parents; children: Anna, David, and Ron; and siblings: Nile, Mervel, Bob, and Dale.
