Betty L. Ash January 14, 1923 - November 9, 2007
Betty L. Ash, 84, of Greenfield, passed away Friday, November 9, 2007 at Hancock Regional Hospital.
Betty was born January 14, 1923 in Hancock County to the late John and Hazel (McPherson) Hudson. She attended Greenfield High School, where she became the first female Head Drum Major. She then married the late Leo Ash on January 14, 1941, and enjoyed traveling with him in their later years together. Betty was employed at Ash Perennial Farm of New Palestine for many years, as well as a member of the Greenfield Christian Church. An avid bowler, Betty bowled with the same league for 30 years, also teaching high school students the sport when they visited the alley for gym class. Her trustworthiness enabled many to view Betty as a confidant, allowing anyone who came into contact with her to be uplifted by her wit and sense of humor. She was very active in local politics, keeping a constant eye on the news and current events. Betty could always be found cheering for her beloved Indianapolis Colts, whom she coached from her living room.
She is survived by her daughter, Sherry (Norman) Hart of Greenfield; son, Greg Ash of Greenfield; sisters, Dorothea Harrison and Marcia (John) Hackleman, both of Greenfield; brother, John Richard Hudson of Greenfield; grandchildren, Matt (Heather) Hart of Trafalgar, Ann Blagburn of Greenfield, Nathan (Dana) Hart of Greenfield, and Suzanne (Doug) Young of Greenfield; great-grandchildren, Cody and Jessica Hart of Trafalgar, C.J., Will and Elizabeth Blagburn of Greenfield, MaryJane and Leo Hart of Greenfield, and Tyler and Avery Young of Greenfield; also many nieces and nephews.
