Brenda Sue Cross

January 19, 1944 — December 18, 2025

Greenfield

Brenda Sue Cross, 82, passed away on Thursday evening, December 18, 2025. She was born on January 19, 1944, in Greenfield, to the late Arthur and Bertha Johnson.

She graduated from Greenfield High School in 1962 and later attended Indiana Business College, where she also graduated in 1962. Brenda worked for Indiana Knit Wear for 35 years and generously volunteered her time with the Fountaintown Fire Department. She often fondly shared stories of driving the fire engines during her service there.

Brenda faithfully attended church at Cumberland First Baptist and had a deep love for studying her Bible and the Lord’s word. She was well known for feeding the squirrels in her backyard—giving them names and setting out generous “buffets” of birdseed and peanuts. Her favorite drink was Diet Pepsi, though she never turned down a Diet Rite. She enjoyed knitting socks and blankets, embroidering pillowcases, and collecting Pillsbury Doughboy memorabilia. Brenda also dearly loved her dogs, Mini Muffin and Sophie.

She is survived by her daughter, Karen Taylor; grandchildren, Heather (Zachary) Peek, Robert Watts (girlfriend Sydney), Andy Plowdery, and Joey Plowdery; great-grandchildren, Sydney and Zachary; and her only surviving brother, Ronnie and many members of the Johnson Family here in Greenfield.

She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings Elizabeth, Robert, Betty, Richard, Phyllis, Jimmy, Sheila—whom she deeply missed on a daily basis—and her beloved dogs, Mini Muffin and Sophie.

A private committal service will be held at Park Cemetery. Stillinger Family Funeral Home is honored to care for Brenda and her family during this difficult time.
