Captain Shawn Steven Eubanks

May 16, 1973 — October 8, 2024

Captain Shawn Steven Eubanks, 51, Greenfield, IN, passed away unexpectantly on October 8, 2024. Captain Shawn was born on May 16, 1973, in Benton, IL, to Thomacine Kay (Haley) and the late Harold Steven Eubanks. He graduated from Johnson City Community High School, Johnson City, IL. He also graduated from Southern Illinois University with an Associates in Applied Sciences, Mortuary Science and Funeral Service degree.

After practicing in the field of funeral service for a few years, Captain Shawn realized that such a field was not his intended career path. It was by a chance encounter one day in Carbondale with Shakey Jake, that he would be catapulted into a maritime pathway. With Captain Shawn's love of the sea, water, and boating, he was hooked and further enlisted in many training sessions and courses to become a boat captain. Shawn relished his new role and life. He steered many a vessel from commercial boats to charter boats. Captain Shawn's partner-in-crime was his beloved four-legged dog, Smokey. His new career path employed him for 30 years on the sea. Although the Midwest had no marine life nor waterways, Captain Shawn found all the time in the world to travel back home to Illinois and Indiana to spend quality time with family and friends. He called Indiana home for most of his years. In addition to the water life, Captain Shawn proudly supported his Southern Illinois University Suluki life, loved playing video games, playing the guitar, and listening to music. And let's not forget his love of Star Wars.

Captain Shawn is survived by his loving mother, Thomacine (Henry) Haywood; sister, Shannon (Phil) Brooks; brother, Shea (Heather) Eubanks; step-mother, Marrietta Eubanks; step-brothers: Josh (Denise) Haywood, Justin Haywood, and Gary Shadoens; aunt, Kathleen (Bob) Huff; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father; grandparents, Thomas & Pansy Haley and Richard and Grace Eubanks; beloved dog, Smokey; and step-brother, Chris Shadoens.
