Carol Anne (Johnson) Griner-Peyton, 79, of Greenfield, went to be with the Lord on December 3, 2024. Carol was born April 3, 1945, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, IN to Marlin & Ruth (Fleming) Johnson.
Carol graduated from Central High School in Ft Wayne in 1963. She attended Ivy Tech for 18 months while working & raising a family. Carol worked as an engineering clerk for most of her career with Indiana Bell/Ameritech until she chose to retire from there in December of 1994 after 21 years of service. After leaving Ameritech, she chose to work for Bank One & American United Life until she chose to fully retire and move to North Fort Myers in 2001. After retiring, she found a passion for creating beautiful watercolor paintings and sold many pieces of art throughout Florida & Indiana. Carol also was very active in retirement with volunteering at Hancock Regional Hospital as well as her churches & other charitable organizations including some leadership positions within those organizations. Carol was a member of New Life Christian Church with her prior churches in Greenfield being Bradley United Methodist & First Church of God as well as God's Pocket Christian Church while residing in Florida. She participated in many bible study groups, prayer meetings, and took on leadership roles with each of her churches.
Carol had many hobbies during her life including biking, hiking, golfing, & traveling in addition to creating art and volunteering. Her biggest enjoyment in life came from spending time with family & friends which may be something as simple as eating a meal together, going for ice cream or a movie, making a craft, enjoying a girls shopping day, going to a local park or a state park, watching her kids or grandkids participate in an activity, or something more elaborate as going on a trip out of state or on a cruise. She loved to play card or board games with some of her favorite games being euchre, dominoes, rummy & uno!
Carol was lucky to have found two loves during her life. Carol married Ronald Keith Griner on March 4, 1966, in Ft Wayne at the First Christian Union Church with most of their married life being spent in Greenfield until he passed away of cancer in 1996. Carol was fortunate enough to find love again and married Gene Douglas Peyton on April 17, 1999, who passed away in 2019.
Carol was the beloved mother to son, Randy Griner; daughter, Shirley (Erick) Raaen; stepson, Brian Peyton; stepdaughter, Cindy Peyton; grandchildren: Megan (Alex) Gump, Kate (Kyle) Williamson, Alex Raaen, David (Tiffany) Stone, Chase (Katie) Peyton, Rachel (Richard) Peyton, Bessie Peyton, Josh Peyton and Zach (Renee) Sumpter; and 8 great grandchildren. In addition, she is survived by her brother & sister-in-law, Malcom & Charlotte Griner; brother & sister-in-law, Duane & Clara Griner; sister-in-law, Dorothea Porter; brother-in-law, Danny Peyton; and 10 nieces & nephews.
Carol was preceded in death by her husbands, Ronald Keith Griner & Gene Douglas Peyton; parents, Marlin & Ruth Johnson; stepmother, Argivie Johnson; sister, Donna McIntyre; brother, Bruce Johnson; niece, Michele Johnson; stepdaughter, Davetta Stone; stepson, Mike (Renee) Sumpter; and stepdaughter, Karen Sumpter.
Services will be at 12:00 noon, on Friday, December 13, 2024, at Stillinger Family Funeral Home, 1780 West Main Street, Greenfield with Pastor Michael McIntyre officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon. Burial will be in South Mound Cemetery, West Lawn addition in New Castle. Memorial contributions may be given to American Cancer Society, Alzheimer's Association, American Heart Association, Wesley Methodist Church (Florida), New Life Christian Church (Fortville, IN), and/or Bradley United Methodist Church (Greenfield, IN).
