Claudine Hanna-Gray, age 88 of Shirley, passed away peacefully Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at Golden Living Center, Brandywine. She was born June 19, 1930 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to the late Claude and Elizabeth (Sides) Hanna. Claudines Cherokee Indian birthright guided her to be a proud member of the Cherokee Nation. She married Calvin C. Gray on December 1, 1949.
Claudine had impeccable Christian values and instilled those values in her children and grandchildren. Together, Calvin and Claudine took many other children to church and Sunday School to ensure they too had the opportunity to serve the Lord. Claudine was a proud breast cancer survivor and for many years anonymously provided breast cancer patients with survival care packages to Hancock Regional Hospital. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Early in her career Claudine worked for the Boise Grain Elevator in Shirley and was the secretary to the principal at Eastern Hancock. Her children knew all too well that if they were sent to the principals office, they would have to see her first. Prior to her retirement she worked for the Hancock County Auditors Office for many years.
She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Calvin C. Gray; children, Stephen (Chris) Gray, C.K. "Bud" (Jeannine) Gray, Cheryl (Tom) King, Carla (Mick) Ireton; sister; Mary Helen Ritan; 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Claudine is preceded in death by her parents; infant son Jeff Gray; brother, Ross Hanna; and sister; Hazel Mullins.
