Darry Wayne Montgomery

December 30, 1950 — June 28, 2023

Darry Wayne Montgomery, 72, Indianapolis, passed away June 28, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. Darry was born on December 30, 1950, in Lancaster, KY, to Paul Wayne and Audrey June (Maupin) Montgomery.

Darry was a self-taught musician beginning at the age of 12. Through the years he learned to play every instrument he could get his hands on. He grew up loving the Beatles and could perform any Beatles song requested. Darry joined and served in the U.S. Army, becoming a black beret. While in the Army, he played in the Army band and due to his exceptional talent, he often played private parties for the high dignitaries. He even wrote a song that was awarded merit. After leaving the Army, Darry formed a few bands over his years, but was most proud of 'Darry and the Blue Lights.' He performed at numerous Indianapolis venues over the years and became one of Indy's favorites. Aside from music, he enjoyed riding his bicycle, camping, and spending time with family and grandchildren.
