Darry Wayne Montgomery, 72, Indianapolis, passed away June 28, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. Darry was born on December 30, 1950, in Lancaster, KY, to Paul Wayne and Audrey June (Maupin) Montgomery.
Darry was a self-taught musician beginning at the age of 12. Through the years he learned to play every instrument he could get his hands on. He grew up loving the Beatles and could perform any Beatles song requested. Darry joined and served in the U.S. Army, becoming a black beret. While in the Army, he played in the Army band and due to his exceptional talent, he often played private parties for the high dignitaries. He even wrote a song that was awarded merit. After leaving the Army, Darry formed a few bands over his years, but was most proud of 'Darry and the Blue Lights.' He performed at numerous Indianapolis venues over the years and became one of Indy's favorites. Aside from music, he enjoyed riding his bicycle, camping, and spending time with family and grandchildren.
Darry is survived by his loving wife, Linda Brummett of 16 years; their children:
Christopher (Jessica) Montgomery, Ireland (Shawna) Montgomery, Heather Montgomery (Nathan), Heather Brummett, Michelle Brummett (James), Raelin Brummett and Austin Brummett ; 17 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren + 1 on-the-way; siblings: Diana Montgomery (Junior Fields), Darlene Purcell, Debbi Sutherland, and John Tudor; Aunt, Clara Maupin-Hazelwood; Judy Montgomery, mother of his 3 children; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Wayne Montgomery; mother, Audrey June Sutherland; and brothers: Randy Montgomery, Kenny Montgomery, Earion Stinson, and Eric Stinson.
Visitation will be on Saturday, July 15, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon at Stillinger Family Funeral Home, 11636 East Washington Street, Indianapolis, IN, with the service immediately following at 12:00 noon, also at the funeral home. Burial will take place in New Palestine Cemetery, New Palestine, with full military rites afforded. Memorial contributions may be made to Frenzy Animal Rescue, 37 West Mill Street, New Palestine, IN 46163.
