David Albert Griffin

February 22, 1931 — February 13, 2022

David Albert Griffin (90) passed away peacefully in his home on the afternoon of February 13, 2022. Born on February 22, 1931, he was the youngest child of Earl and Anna (Tritch) Griffin. Even from a young age, Dave was known for his strong work ethic, his love for family, and his witty sense of humor. Dave was an Air Force veteran, having enlisted in 1951 and trained in aircraft and engine mechanics. He was promoted to Staff Sergeant David Griffin and served as Crew Chief in both Castle Air Force Base (Merced, CA) and Lincoln Air Force Base (Lincoln, Nebraska). At the end of his term in 1955, Dave decided to move back to Indiana so that he, his wife, Beverly (Richey) Griffin, and their first daughter, Sandra, could be close to family. Upon arriving in Indianapolis, Dave began working at Allison's as a Senior Lab Tech working with jet engines. Later he would become a sheet metal worker for T & S Metal, Apex, and other companies for over 25 years. Dave also had further training in heating and cooling and earned his Real Estate license to ensure that he would always be able to provide for his family. Family was always important to Dave. He and his first wife, Beverly, had three daughters: Sandra, Sherri, and Lori. He was heartbroken when Beverly died in 1972. They had been married for 21 years. Dave found love again with Doris Barlow, and they married in 1973, creating a new family consisting of Dave's three daughters and Doris' three children: Steven, LouAnn, and Brian. Dave's family would eventually grow to include 12 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. He loved spending time with his family and often found ways to make each person feel special. Dave also loved his church family at Avon Community Church of God. Dave gave his heart and life to Jesus in 1962 and always wanted his family and loved ones to know the importance of belonging to God. He served in leadership roles and took pride in helping the church with repairs or mechanical issues. He also participated in many work teams to Camp Challenge, near Bedford, IN, so that children and youth could have a safe, fun place to grow spiritually. Dave could always be depended on for a listening ear, wise advice, a helping hand, or a witty comment. He will be greatly missed, but his loved ones rejoice knowing that Dave's heavenly home far exceeds the earthly one that he so lovingly built in Avon, IN back in 1967. Dave Griffin is survived by his children: Sandy (Steve) Barlow, Sherri (Paul) Robbins, Lori Redman, and Lou Ann (Gregg) Morelock. He is also survived by his daughter-in-law Belinda Barlow; his nephews Butch (Vicki) Griffin, Dan (Karen) Griffin, and Steven Richey; his 12 grandchildren, and his 12 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his first wife Beverly (Richey) Griffin; his second wife Doris (Tebby) Barlow Griffin; his infant daughter, Catherine Griffin; his step-son, Brian Barlow; his parents Earl and Anna (Tritch) Griffin; and his siblings, William Griffin and Iris Griffin. Friends may call from 10 am-12 pm, Saturday, February 26, 2022 at Avon Community Church of God, 2309 N County Road 800 E, Avon, IN 46123. The funeral service will be held at 12 pm with Rev. Bill Sandifer, officiating. The burial will be at Floral Park Cemetery.
