David Wayne Mardis, 73, peacefully passed away at his residence, surrounded by his loving family, on Tuesday morning, July 15, 2025. He was born on September 6, 1951, in Indianapolis, Indiana to the late Lawrence B. and Elva Marie (Mason) Toon.
David graduated from Triton Central High School in 1969 and then went on to attend Ball State University where he received his Bachelor's degree in Teaching. He then went on to receive his Master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Christian Theological Seminary. He worked as a Paramedic/EMT for AID Ambulance before becoming a mental health therapist for Community Hospital. David was a beloved employee and driver for six years at Penny's Florist. While he was a member at Bradley United Methodist Church, he created a puppet ministry and also a teen support group called Teen Care. He then became a member of Park Chapel Christian Church. On August 4, 1973, David married the love of his life, Marilyn (Grist) Mardis and had two loving daughters. He was known for his community service and his love for helping others. His hobbies included oil painting, woodworking, and paper quilling, as well as his love for Legos.
David is survived by his loving wife, his daughters; Jennifer Mardis, Allison (Audie) Trinkle, granddaughters; Aubrey (Payton) Wilson, Hailee Rose, siblings; Linda Mardis, Pam Wood, Tim Mardis, and a niece and nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents, as listed above.
Visitation will be held on Monday, July 21, 2025, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Stillinger Family Funeral Home, Pasco Chapel, 1780 West Main Street, Greenfield, IN. Visitation will also be held the following day, Tuesday, July 22, 2025 at 10 a.m. with the service to follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Curtis Hurley officiating. Burial will follow at Park Cemetery, Greenfield, IN.
