David Lee Petty, 71, Greenfield, passed away on Thursday, September 11, 2025. David was born on January 2, 1954, in Indianapolis, to parents Gene Oliver and Mary Lucille (Applegate) Petty. He married Peggy Sue Groover on June 30, 2006.
David had a love for trains. He collected and worked on HO trains. He attended train shows. He even fixed trains if the local shop reached out to him looking for some assistance. David was a handyman, a jack-of-all trades, to say. He loved to tinker. He could often be found sitting on the porch watching and feeding the squirrels and birds. But his love for animals encompassed all. He was even known to own a few exotic animals over his years past. He enjoyed taking the grandchildren to the park and taught some of them how to fish. David also loved classic rock music. His sound system was impressive, like you were present in concert. He and Peggy took annul trips to different destinations over their years together. David worked as a service technician for White Castle facilities all throughout Indiana for several years.
David is survived by his loving wife Peggy of 19 years; children: Richard Petty, Jason (Angie) Miller, Demetrius Groover, Kira (William) Purcell, and Zachary Andrews; 10 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; sister, Jo Ann (Jeff) Harpold; and 6 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, James Petty and Steve Petty.
