Delores Christine (Fields) Canter

Delores Christine (Fields) Canter, age 85, of Greenfield, Indiana, passed away surrounded by her loving family April 19, 2023, at her residence. She was born January 11, 1938, in Indianapolis, Indiana to the late Alton Thomas Fields and Ruth Christine (Burton) Allen. She was married to James E. Canter on December 12, 1955, until his death in 2005.

Delores attended Warren Central High School in Indianapolis and was a devoted homemaker. She is remembered for her wonderful sense of humor. She was a popular, fun, sweet person who was called "Mom" by all who knew her. She could also be strong and independent. Her love for the outdoors found her enjoying camping and fishing, and she loved to watch things grow. Her houseplants thrived under her care, including a 39-year-old peace lily still going strong. Delores was an accomplished poet and had several of her original poems published. She loved music and was a big Elvis fan. Delores was a member of New Faith Community Church in New Palestine. She loved her family and will be dearly missed.

She is survived by her children, Debra D. Toothman (Denny), Cathy L. Jolliff, Randy W. Canter (Debbie), and Shana R. Johns; 15 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; four great great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, James, of 50 years; son, James E. Canter Jr.; brothers, William D. Blevins and John Blevins; and sisters, Carol J. Arthur, Betty Preston, and Marcia K. Allen.

A funeral service will be held Monday, April 24, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at Stillinger Family Funeral Home – Pasco Chapel, 1780 West Main Street, Greenfield, Indiana, 46140. Friends may visit from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
