Donn R. Hunter M.D. August 22, 1925 - July 10, 2012 Donn R. Hunter, M. D., 86, of Greenfield passed away July 10, 2012 surrounded by his family. He is survived by his son Sam Hunter (Pat) and their children Claire and Max; son John Hunter and his daughter Rachel; step-daughter Carol Marincovich (Peter) and their children Elizabeth and Anna; step-son Thomas Grier (Linda) and their children Erin Rich (John) and Rob, and Josiah and Isaiah Rich, his step-great-grandchildren. Dr. Hunter was preceded in death by Betty B. (Grier) Hunter and Donna R. (Bocock) Hunter. Dr. Hunter was born in Indianapolis on August 22, 1925, the only child of the late Cecil R. and Mary (Harper) Hunter. He was a graduate of Converse High School, Indiana University, and IU School of Medicine. He was a Captain and Flight Surgeon with the U. S. Air Force, and received the U. S. Air Medal from President Eisenhower in 1955. Dr. Hunter began his medical practice in 1951 in Greenfield, retiring in 1978 to work in hospital medicine and anesthesiology. He was board certified in Family Practice, and was involved with Hancock Memorial Hospital (Hancock Regional Hospital) from its early years either as a staff physician or as liaison to the Board of Trustees. He was instrumental in the development of the hospitals first blood bank, respiratory department, cardiac department, and home health care program. Dr. Hunter was chairman of the first Hancock County Board of Health for 17 years. Dr. Hunter enjoyed Canadian fishing, trips to Michigan with Sam and his family and golf trips with John, and visits from Carol and Tom and their families. He was accomplished at needlepoint, creating a patch accepted by NASA. His family is grateful for the friends with whom he has shared so many enjoyable breakfasts "at the farm" and for the affection shown "Doc Hunter" by the people of the community through the years. Calling for Dr. Hunter will be held at Stillinger Family Funeral Home, Pasco Chapel, on Friday, July 13, 2012 from 3 to 7 p.m. His funeral service will be Saturday, July 14, 2012 at 11 a.m., with calling one hour prior to the service at Bradley Methodist Church, where he was a long-time member.
