Earl W. "Lucky" Giddings, age 85 of Greenfield passed away Saturday, December 12, 2015 in Greenfield.
Lucky was born February 17, 1930 in Decatur County, Indiana to the late Thomas and Minnie (Mantooth) Giddings. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Japan and Hawaii. He married Mildred (Hodapp) on July 17, 1955. Together they made their home in Greenfield where Lucky was the owner and operator of Luckys Equipment for 40 years prior to retiring in 2007.
Prior to owning Lucky's Equipment he worked for Macallister Machinery where his nickname "Lucky" evolved and stuck for 50 plus years.
Lucky was one of the several individuals that started with the Rescue/Fire Unit in Greenfield. He was very proud to be a part of this team. The guys from the station were truly a family. He loved his annual fishing trips with friends and grandsons to Canada for 30 years. He loved his horses and for many years was the" Headless Horseman" at Conner Prairie. He would ride whenever possible and enjoyed trail rides in Brown County. When he wasn't working Lucky was usually trailed by one or more grandsons.
Known by Lucky to many, but to his children he was Dad. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He taught his children and grandchildren patience, kindness, work ethic, humor and love. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife Mildred of Greenfield, children, Steve Giddings, Sheila Roland both of Greenfield and Sharon (Tom) Fisher of Lafayette, honorary "brother" Billy Giddings of Charlottesville, brothers; Morris Thomas, Marvin, Jimmy and sister; Willa May Knarr all of Greensburg.
He is preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Susan Wilson, grandson Kit Snyder and sister Wilma K. Wright.
Friends may call 4-8 pm, Thursday, December 17, 2015 at Stillinger FamilyFuneral Home, Pasco Chapel, 1780 West Main Street, Greenfield, Indiana. Funeral Service will be 11 am, Friday December 18th at the funeral home with burial and military rites provided by the Greenfield Veterans Honor Guard immediately following.
