Edna Mae Brooks Martin

Edna Mae Brooks Martin, age 94, passed away on February 23, 2022, at Springhurst in Greenfield, In. Edna was born at home on her family farm near Willow Branch, IN to Florence Adkins Brooks and Charles A. Brooks. She was the youngest of six children. Vernice Brooks, Martha Brooks Wooten, Lois Brooks Buser, Charles Brooks, and Dorothy Brooks McClintock all proceeded her in death. Edna graduated from Wilkinson High School in 1945. She was married to Bob Martin of Eden. They had daughters Sharin Martin of Indianapolis and Pamela Hayes of Wilkinson who survive. A daughter, Linda, died in infancy. Edna worked at Delco Remy in Anderson, Indiana for 34 years. She submitted several efficiency suggestions to management that were accepted and was financially rewarded for them. In her fifties, Edna took courses at Ivy Tech for four years to qualify for skilled trades at Delco which had just opened the opportunity to women. She passed the qualifications and worked in skilled trades until her retirement. Finding retirement boring, Edna went to work at Walmart as a greeter for the next 25 years. retiring at age 90. Her Walmart years had some excitement as she frequently accosted shoplifters. At one point, a manager told the security official that Edna had saved Walmart more money from shoplifting than his department that year. Edna loved the contact she had with her many acquaintances passing through Walmart doors. She often had a joke to tell and sported festive hats, glasses, or apparel for the current holiday. Edna belonged to Country Harmony Home Economics Club, Common Threads Quilting Club. and a Red Hat Society. She was a good cook and frugal home manager. She enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening into her 90s. She supported local churches, especially her home church, the Willow Branch Methodist Church by bringing a carload of friends to church suppers. Edna was a member of Trinity Park Methodist Church. Edna will be missed by daughter Pam and husband, Phil Hayes and Sharin. Grandchildren, Wade Christian (Mitzi), Carlynn Christian (Franz Feierbach), and Brandon Hayes (Becky). Great granddaughters, Mara Feierbach Christian, Sydney Hayes, and Aubrey Hayes. Nieces and nephews: Bill and Mike Brooks, Adeen Hargrove, Larry and Lynn Brooks, Ron Buser, Nancy Gray, Peggy Nation, Debbie, and Karen McClintock. Visitation will be Friday, March 4, 2022 from 10:30 am until time of service at Trinity Park United Methodist Church. A funeral service will follow at the church at 12:00 pm with Pastor Larry VanCamp officiating. Burial will follow at Park Cemetery, Greenfield.
