Edward L. Veenhuizen, 85, of Greenfield died Wednesday, August 24, 2022. Ed was born on December 18, 1936 in Seattle, WA to Pauline (Reilly) and Jake Veenhuizen. He met Sally Hurlbert through 4-H youth activities and they were married in 1956 on August 18th and most recently celebrated 66 wonderful years together. Ed cherished life with his family and loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Ed was dedicated to serving others, especially Purdue University Extension Service, 4-H, International Rotary Club, and St. Michael Catholic Church. Ed was a Hancock County 4-H leader for 25 years. He enjoyed international travel, including places like France, Norway, Africa, Antarctica and many more. Ed was an accomplished agriculturalist and avid gardener. He enjoyed working in his vegetable and flower gardens and raising sheep. For years, Ed and his family traveled throughout the Midwest to show their state and nationally recognized Hampshire sheep. Ed was an Air Force veteran as an aviation physiologist. He had a rewarding career and retired from Eli Lilly & Company after 35-years as an agricultural scientist, holding several product patents. He enjoyed playing a good game of cribbage, cheering on the Purdue Men's Football and Basketball teams, and watching the Indianapolis Colts. Ed is survived by his wife, Sally, their 3 children, Michael (Melissa), Jeffrey (Amy), and Mary Casebere (Ken); his 4 grandchildren Katie, Benjamin, Deklin, and Kelsey; 4 great grandchildren Ellie, Lanie, Dawson, and Morrie; and his beloved cat Bow. In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by his brother, James. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 31, at 11:00 am at St. Michael Catholic Church, Greenfield, along with one hour prior visitation. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 pm, August 30, 2022 at Stillinger Family Funeral Home, 1780 W. Main Street, Greenfield. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make an expression of sympathy in Ed's name are encouraged to make contributions to Hancock County 4-H or St. Michael Catholic Church. www.stillingerfamily.com
