Elden E. DeJarnett, Sr. 87 years, passed away Tuesday April 13, 2026, at Hancock Regional Hospital, Greenfield. He was born December 26, 1938, in Winslow, Indiana to the late Lloyd and Margaret (Padgett) DeJarnett.
Elden graduated from Winslow High School in 1957 and served his country as an MP in the US Army from 1961 to 1963. He retired from Ford Motor Company as a Supervisor after 30 years and served as a Hancock County Sheriff’s Department as a Reserve Deputy for over 20 years. Elden was a member of the Elks Lodge, Moose Lodge, FOP, and the American Legion. He was an avid sports fan that followed his children and grandchildren to many of their sporting events to cheer them on. Elden played basketball while serving in the US Army and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Frances (Tomasello) DeJarnett, whom he married on Jan. 17, 1964, daughter, Kim (Joel) Nelson, son, Elden DeJarnett, Jr, sister, Phyllis Stephens, grandchildren, Olivia DeJarnett, Will DeJarnett, a niece and several nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents listed above and sister, Martha Lou Carroll.
Visitation will be Saturday, April 18, 2026, from 11:00 am until 2:00 pm, at Stillinger Family Funeral Home, Pasco Chapel, 1780 W. Main Street, Greenfield, IN. Visitation will begin with a Proclamation delivered by Sheriff Brad Burkhart of the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department and will end with Military Rites provided by the US Army and the Greenfield Veteran Honor Guard. There will be no formal funeral service.
