Emma Lorice Schmidt

Emma Lorice Schmidt, 84, Greenfield, passed away Sunday, January 10, 2021. She was born on September 1, 1936 in Petersburg, IN to the late Ransom and Rachel (Corn) Nixon. Emma graduated in 1954 from Sheridan High School. She would later marry Robert Schmidt. Emma was employed with both Chrysler and Allison Transmission as a Key Punch Operator for many years. She was a member of Psi Iota Xi Sorority, a long-time volunteer at Hancock Regional Hospital, as well as a long-time member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Greenfield. In her younger years she was a Girl Scout leader for her daughters. Emma also loved to travel, especially to Medugorje. Emma is survived by her loving children: Stephanie (Ted) Corporandy, Jan Williams, and Robert Schmidt, II (Diana Higginbotham); grandchildren: Shane Schmidt, Christopher Williams, Jake Williams, Lexi Williams, and Seth Schmidt; 4 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law: Jane Peetz and Sharon Nixon; and several nieces and nephews. Emma was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert Schmidt who passed in July 2002; sister, Martha Moldroski; and brother, Mike Nixon. Visitation will be held on Monday, January 18, 2021 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Stillinger Family Funeral Home, Greenfield. The Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow at the funeral home, with Father Aaron Jenkins officiating. As a reminder, all attendees will need to adhere to mask-wearing protocol and that of social distancing. Memorial contributions may be made to The American Stroke Association, 7272 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75231 and/or St. Michael Catholic Church, 519 Jefferson Blvd, Greenfield, IN 46140.
