Francis L. "Red" Taflinger July 28, 1921 - April 6, 2013 Francis "Red" Lee Taflinger, 91 years, formerly of Newburgh, Ind. passed away Saturday morning April 6, 2013 at Springhurst Health Campus, Greenfield, Ind. Red was born July 28, 1921 in Lexington, Ind. to the late John and Dorothy (Geisendorf) Taflinger. Red graduated from Lexington High School in 1940 and served in the U.S. Navy in World War II. He worked for Dravo Corporation and retired in 1986 from the Operating Engineers. Red married Margaret E. Jaco on August 30, 1951, as she has preceded him in death in 2000. Red loved the outdoors, was an avid fisherman and gardener. He was a true craftsman and made a variety of beautiful furniture. He was a never idle and was always ready to play a game of euchre. He enjoyed each and every day and prided himself in never having a bad one. He never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with anyone. He never left without handing out a piece of "driving" candy. Red was a wonderful man and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his daughter, Debbie Taflinger of Vero Beach, Florida, sons, Robert (Kelly) Taflinger of Greenfield, Ind., James (Sue) Fowler of Moores Hill, Ind., sister, Wilma Morris of Louisville, Kentucky, eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, one great great-grandchild, several nieces, nephews and a special niece, Donna Stewart of Scottsburg, Ind. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret in 2000, a sister, Helen Axt, brother, William Taflinger and a daughter, Barbara Ann Knox. Visitation will be 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. Saturday, April 13, 2013 at Stillinger Family Funeral Home, Pasco Chapel of Greenfield. A remembrance of his life will be 3:00 p.m. Saturday, April 13, 2013, at the funeral home with military rites provided by the Greenfield Veteran Honor Guard. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery, Newburgh, Ind. on Monday, April 15, 2013 at 12 noon.
