Gabriel "Gabby" Garza March 18, 1922 - March 3, 2009 Gabriel (Gabby) Garza was reunited with his wife, Maria Rita on March 3, 2009. Gabriel would have been 87 years old on March 18. Gabriel was born on March 18, 1922 to Santos and Ysabel (de Luna) Garza near Monterrey, Mexico and they resided in Mission, Texas. Gabriel's surviving siblings are Manuel, Jose, Alonzo and Frances. His brothers and sisters who preceded him were Hilaria, Maria Ana (Anita), Mario, Aurora, Guadalupe and Miguel. Gabriel was a member of the Greenfield American Legion Post 119 and the Greenfield VFW. He was an active member of the Color Guard. He also played "Taps" for many of his fellow Legionnaires who had passed away in the 1960's and 1970's. Gabriel retired from Roll Coater in Greenfield after 25 years of service. He was in the Army Air Corp during WWII. He was stationed in Guam, Hawaii, and Utah. He then met and married his beautiful wife, Rita on November 23, 1948. They were married for 51 years. Rita preceded him in death on March 25, 2000. Gabriel's children are Debra (Fred) Miller, Washington; David Esteven Garza, Syracuse, IN; Dan (Laura) Garza, Beech Grove; Dale (Deborah) Garza, Morristown; His grandchildren are Khara Lewis, Shante Garza Sutherland, Victoria Miller, Brittany Garza, Katherine Garza, Cheri (Garza) Anders, Erich Miller, Danielle Garza, Eric Garza, and Samantha Garza. His great-grandchildren are Christopher Austin Parker, Kylee Anders, Jordan Anders, Ryan Anders, Kaeden Greer, Emma Elisabeth Lewis, Korbin Garza, Kaeden Garza and Daxton Garza. Gabriel leaves behind many family members and dear friends who will deeply miss him. Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 7, 2009 at Stillinger Family Funeral Home, Pasco Chapel, Greenfield. Entombment will follow at Washington Park East Cemetery with military rites provided by the Greenfield Veterans Honor Guard. Friends may call at the funeral home Friday, March 6, 2009 from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be sent to the American Legion Building Fund, 119 American Legion Place, Greenfield, IN 46140.
