Gail Mure (Staley) Brawner

Gail Mure (Staley) Brawner, age 78 of Fortville, passed away Monday October 16, 2023. She was born March 4, 1945, in Black Mountain, North Carolina, to the late Floyd E. Staley and Lottie E. (Odom) Staley. On August 20, 1966, she married Carlis Miller Brawner.

Gail was owner and operator of Brawner's Greenhouse for over 44 years in Fortville. An avid gardener, Gail and her husband grew plant materials and produce. Gail's love was for the flowers while Carlis leaned more toward the vegetables. The beautiful hanging baskets of flowers that decorated the town of Fortville were grown in Brawner's greenhouses. They supplied a large number of churches and other retailers with plants for many years. She also had fairy gardens at the greenhouse. She loved to cook and garden, canning most of her own vegetables. Gail also loved to camp. Another passion of Gail's was caring for animals. She loved and raised dogs. As the matriarch, Gail held the family together. She loved spending time with her husband, children, and grandson. She was a member of Brandywine Community Church.

She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Carlis Miller Brawner; children, Dar (Jimmie) Brawner Johnson and Chris Brawner; grandson, Evan Brawner; and her beloved dogs, Sassy, Sugar, and Murphy.

Gail is preceded in death by her parents and siblings: Marjorie Caldwell, Lois Hurd, Lloyd Staley, and one younger sister.

Friends may call 10:00 am until 12:00 pm, Thursday, October 19, 2023, at Stillinger Family Funeral Home, Hendryx Chapel, Cumberland, 11636 East Washington Street, Indianapolis, IN 46229. The funeral service will be held at 12 noon with Pastor Matt Wickham officiating, also at the funeral home.
