George Charles Bateman

George Charles Bateman March 21, 1924 - June 1, 2014 George Charles Bateman, 90, of Greenfield, passed away June 1, 2014 at Hancock Regional Hospital. George was born March 21, 1924 to the late Sherman Bateman and Ocie (Evans) Bateman. George was a graduate of Plainville High School. He was a sailor in the US Navy. George married Mary (Gilley) Bateman on January 14, 1949. He was a school bus driver in the Washington Community School district for 30 years before retiring. He also worked as an oil delivery driver and enjoyed coaching little league for many years. George is survived by a daughter, Jane Herbst of Greenfield; his sisters, Betty Haskins of Oden, IN and Jodi Eaton of Washington, IN; two grandchildren and one great grandchild. George is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary; and a daughter, Rebecca "Becky" Bateman. No services are scheduled at this time.
