George R. Collins December 2, 1938 - September 2, 2007
George R. Collins, 68, of Indianapolis, passed away Sunday, September 2, 2007 at his residence.
He was born December 2, 1938 in Anderson, IN to the late George A. and Dorotha (Reed) Collins.
After graduating from Warren Central High School, he served in the U.S. Marines from 1958-1962 and retired from Navistar in 2002 after 33 years of service. He also worked for the Warren Township Fire Department for 14 years, became the first president of the Bass Federation, won state team bass tournament by Hoosier Bass Masters, and was an avid hunter.
He is survived by wife, Carol (Wilkins) Collins, whom he married August 22, 1962, of Indianapolis; son, George E. (Amy) Collins of Fountaintown; daughters, Sharon (Lee) Collins Ellinger, Brenda Spencer both of Indianapolis; brothers, Charles (Judi) Collins of Bedford, Dave (Betsy) Collins of Fincastle; sisters, Judy (Bob) Prosch of Mooresville, Carolyn (Marvin) Fisher of TN, Linda (Bob) Monroe of MO; 9 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
He is preceded by both of his parents.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, September 8, 2007 at Fountaintown Christian Church with Rev. Michael Smith officiating.
