Gordon Nance, age 84, a long-time resident of Greenfield passed away Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at I.U. Methodist Hospital after a brief illness. He was born June 30, 1934 in Pike County, Indiana to the late Roscoe and Elzadie (Purl) Nance.
Following his graduation from Ottwell High School Gordon served in the U.S. Army. Gordon married the love of his life Frieda (Sanders) on August 31, 1957 and they relocated to Greenfield in 1957 to raise their family. Prior to his retirement in 1994 Gordon was a supervisor for the Ford Motor Company, Indianapolis.
Gordon never knew a stranger and was always active. He was a 50 plus year 32nd Degree Master Mason and member of the F&AM 121 Masonic Lodge in Petersburg, IN and the Murat Shrine, Indianapolis. Gordon was the past president of the Greenfield Jaycees and former Exalted Ruler of the Elks Lodge, Greenfield.
He is survived by his sons, Mark (Dana) Nance of Greenfield, Jeff (Deanna) Nance of Petersburg, IN.; grandchildren Tommy (Laura) Nance, Hannah (Adrian) Nance-McDonald, Bryanna (Michael) Garner, Jonathan (Britney) Nance; and great grandchildren Easton, Harper and Elsa Mae.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Frieda in 2001 and siblings, Maurice, Paul, Lucille and Geraldine.
Friends may call 4-8 pm, with a Masonic service at 3:45 pm, Monday, January 21, 2019 at Stillinger Family Funeral Home, 1780 West Main Street, Greenfield, Indiana 46140. Funeral service 10 am, Tuesday, January 22 at the funeral home with burial immediately following at Park Cemetery, Greenfield. Military rites provided by the Greenfield Veterans Honor Guard.
