Hazel K. Marcum

Hazel K. Marcum, 97, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 23, 2026. She was born to Bernard and Thelma (Mote) Harris on February 12, 1929, in Norfolk, Virginia.

Hazel married the love of her life, James Marcum Jr., on December 23, 1966. Together they raised four children and built a life centered around family and love. Hazel was an active member of the VFW and Moose Lodge and was an avid bowler who enjoyed participating in local leagues. She had a green thumb and loved gardening both indoors and outdoors. However, her two greatest passions were dancing to upbeat country music and hosting family gatherings in her home, where everyone always felt welcome.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bernard and Thelma Harris; her husband, James Marcum Jr.; her grandchildren, Rachael York-Parks, Michael York Jr. Connie Lynn Marcum, Deanna Marcum; her great-grandson, Keaton Melton; and her brothers, Jimmy Harris and Raymond Harris

Hazel is survived by her children, Kathy York, Dean Marcum (Maxine), James Marcum III, and Tina Lantz (Wayne); her grandchildren, Angie Bokelman (Robert), James York, Kristi Harris (Eric), and Brittney Melton (Nick); and her great-grandchildren, Jessica Parks, Noah Williams, Holly Parks, Alex Bokelman, Savannah Bokelman, Kaleigh Willis, James Bokelman, Malachi Bokelman, Nikalai Bokelman, Kayden Lahey, Kaitlyn Melton, Kameron Harris, Keagen Harris, and Kaizleigh Melton. She is also survived by her sisters, Ruby Perry and Gladys Whitehurst (Johnny), both of Virginia.

A visitation will be held Saturday May 30th from 10:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at the Stillinger Funeral Home Hendryx Chapel 11636 East Washington St Indianapolis, IN 46229 with service immediately following at 12:30 p.m. Burial will be at Washington Park East Cemetery, Indianapolis.
