Hazel Marie (Rich) Barnes

Hazel Marie (Rich) Barnes, 71, Greenfield, passed away on Wednesday, May 7, 2025. Hazel was born on February 17, 1954, in Indianapolis, IN, to parents Willie J.C. and Lily Marie (Jones) Rich.

Hazel was the matriarch of her beautiful family. She loved seeing her children grow up and blossom into the adults they have become, spoiled her grandchildren and great-grandchildren rotten, was thrilled and excited to host family gatherings such as birthdays and holidays, and welcomed her husband's family with an open heart and open arms. Hazel loved to flower garden, read, watch spooky movies, sing, and shop. Her favorites were coffee as well as ice cream. She was a member of Freewill Baptist Church. Professionally and personally, Hazel was a caretaker for many, including loving family members. She worked at Hancock Regional Hospital for many years.

Hazel is survived by her husband, Sonnie Barnes; loving children, Glenn Lee McKim, Terry Wayne McKim, and Lisa Marie McKim; grandchildren, Michael (Jessica) McKim, Ashley (Jonathan) Maleckar, and Jaylee McKim; great-grandchildren, Lucas McKim, Parker Maleckar, Isaac McKim, and Miles Maleckar; step-children, Justin (Gina) Barnes and Connie (Keith) Stillabower; step-grandchildren, Ricky (Natalie) Barnes, Ronnie (Jaycie) Barnes, Justin Barnes, Jr., and Abigale (Craig) Thiel; step-great-grandchildren, Judith Barnes, Robin Barnes, Jordan Barnes, Jackson Barnes, Atticus Thiel, Quinn Thiel, and Cassius Thiel; and nieces and nephews.

Hazel was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Linda Gail Ross; brother, James Edward Rich; step-son, Ricky Barnes; and step-grandson, Justin Barnes.

Visitation will be on Monday, May 12, 2025, from 12:00 noon until 1:00 p.m., at Stillinger Family Funeral Home, 1780 West Main Street, Greenfield, with the service immediately following.
