James Edward Harris, 76, Greenfield, passed away Tuesday, September 21, 2021 at Hickory Creek Nursing Home, Greensburg. James was born on March 8, 1945 in Indianapolis to Charles Vincent and Hildagarde Anna (Baude) Harris. James graduated from Park Tudor High School in Indianapolis. Then then attended Vanderbilt University, transferring to IUPUI, obtaining an Engineering Degree.
James worked as an engineer for Trilithic, Indianapolis, in their marketing and electronics departments before retiring in 2012. He had a strong love for astronomy, computers, and traveling. He enjoyed collecting Star Wars and Star Trek paraphernalia as well as creating items with Legos. He was very involved with his community and church. He volunteered at Wheeler Mission. But the jewels of his eyes were his family, grandchildren, and faithful companion dogs. James attended Christ the Savior Church in Fishers for many years before attending Holy Cross Lutheran Church in the Geist area.
James is survived by his loving wife Linda (Dool) Harris; daughter, Kimberly (Christopher) Proehl; grandchildren: Kaitlyn Proehl, Madeleine Stroup, Trevor Proehl, Sophia Carrico, Kate Iwinski, Cal Iwinski, and Lauren Iwinski; cousins: Linda (Lance) Hartbarger, Heather Kang, and Jessica Hixson; and faithful four-legged companions: Max, Tater Tot, Miss Ellie, and Jock.
James was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Michelle Denise Harris-Iwinski.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, September 28, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon at Stillinger Family Funeral Home, 1780 W. Main Street, Greenfield, with the service immediately following at 12noon. Burial will take place in Park Cemetery, Greenfield. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 50 E. 91st Street, Indianapolis, IN 46240.
