James (Jim) Michael Hunsinger

James (Jim) Michael Hunsinger, 74, of Greenfield, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, July 21, 2026. He was born on April 15, 1952, in Greensburg, Indiana, and was the son of the late Doyle and Ruth (Westerfeld) Hunsinger.

Jim graduated from South Decatur High School in 1970. Following graduation, he attended Ball State University before beginning his career with McDonald's, where he worked his way to Director of Operations for several chains of McDonald’s locations. He dedicated many decades to the McDonald’s organization before retiring in 2015. 

Jim was intelligent, hardworking, and full of life. He had incredible taste in music and movies. He loved to laugh, make people smile, and rarely passed up an opportunity for fun. And, whether he was spending time at the beach, riding dirt bikes and four-wheelers, watching sports, placing a bet, trying his luck at the casino, or simply walking along the shoreline with a drink in his hand, Jim embraced the moments that brought him joy.

Anyone who knew Jim knew he was one of a kind. He lived life on his own terms, whether others agreed with his choices or not. He was as candid as he was loving. You never had to wonder what he was thinking or where you stood with him. In the last several years of his life, he worked to mend relationships and make peace with parts of his past, a quiet testament to the growth that continued throughout his life.

Above all else, Jim was an immensely proud father and grandfather. He loved each of his children deeply and treasured every one of his grandchildren, even those he never had the chance to meet. His love for them was unwavering, and he made sure they knew it.

Jim's family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the caring staff at Cypress Run and to his dear friend, Billy Ray. The time Jim spent at Cypress Run was among the happiest he had experienced in years. Your kindness, friendship, and compassion restored a light in him and brought him comfort and joy during the last chapter of his life. For that, his children will always be grateful. 

Jim is survived by his daughters, April Schilling (Eric), Melissa Guy (Jon), Jessica Craig (Rod), Angie Hunsinger, and Megan Hunsinger; son, Luke Hunsinger; brothers, Daniel Hunsinger (Linda) and Jerome Hunsinger (Shawn); sister, Barbara Abrams (John); grandchildren (Caroline, Corinna, John, Ashlie, Candice (Dallas), Madison, Dylan, Sebastian, Max, Ava, Lyla), great-grandchildren (Brodie and Kalvin), and several nieces and nephews. 

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his sister, Carolyn Outlaw. And his grandson, Jensen Waterman.

In accordance with Jim’s wishes, no services will be held at this time. The family will arrange a celebration of life, with the date, time, and location to be announced in the coming days.
