James Robert Ostermeier June 22, 1947 - February 29, 2012 James Robert Ostermeier, 64, returned to the Lord on Feb. 29, 2012. Born June 22, 1947, in Indianapolis, he was the son of Louis W. Ostermeier and Marie C. (Schakel) Ostermeier Hoover. James lived in Indianapolis and later Greenfield with Kenya, his wife of more than 31 years. He was a member of the Warren Township Fire Department for 30 years, retiring in 2002. He later worked part-time for Commercial Fire Protection. He was a 1965 graduate of Warren Central High School and a Vietnam War Air Force veteran, serving from 1966-1970. He later returned to serving his country and community by becoming active in The American Legion. He served in several positions in American Legion Post 119 in Greenfield, including post commander. He was also active in the 40&8, serving as the states Grand Sous Directeur POW/MIA. He was a member of St. John UCC in Cumberland for years and later a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Greenfield. He was active in the Ramp Rats air show safety team. James is survived by his wife, his mother, his brother Mark Ostermeier, son Steven (Debby) Brooks, daughters Kristin (Jeff) Broome and Ann- Marie Ostermeier, grandchildren Camille, Kelli and Justin, and nephew Christian. He was preceded in death by his father and by grandson Lee. Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 5, 2012, at St. James Lutheran Church, Greenfield. Burial will follow at St. John U.C.C. Church Cemetery with military graveside rites provided by the Greenfield Veteran Honor Guard. Friends may call from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Sunday, March 4, 2012, at Stillinger Family Funeral Home, Pasco Chapel, Greenfield. Memorial contributions can be made to American Legion Post 119, 275 Center Street, Greenfield, IN 46140, St. James Lutheran Church, 1741 S.
