James C. "Jr" Roberts Jr.

James C. "JR" Roberts, Jr., age 76, of Greenfield passed away Friday, February 7, 2020 at IU Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis. He was born September 26, 1943 in Indianapolis to the late James C. and Ella (Whitman) Roberts, Sr. JR was a 1961 graduate of New Palestine High School. He married Pearl (Elliott) Roberts on December 4, 1967 and they made their home and raised their family in Hancock County. JR enjoyed a long career in public safety. Prior to his retirement in 2009 after 27 years with the Indiana State Police, JR was a police officer for the Town of Fortville, a volunteer for the Fortville Fire Department and a Hancock County Reserve Deputy. He was a HAM Radio operator, active member of the Hancock County Emergency Management Agency, a member of the Indianapolis FOP Lodge #86 and a member of the Good Sam's Camping Club #72. Above all else he was a devoted husband, father and papaw. He is survived by his wife Pearl; children, James (Christi) Roberts III, Janice (Dave Scheidt) Roberts; and grandchildren, Ellie Roberts, Trenton Roberts, Emmalyn Roberts, Camden Yost and Kinley Yost. He is preceded in death by his parents listed above. Friends may call 4-8 pm, Wednesday, February 12, 2020 at Stillinger Family Funeral Home, 1780 West Main Street, Greenfield, Indiana 46140. Funeral service 10 am Thursday, February 13 at the funeral home. Burial immediately following at Park Cemetery, Greenfield.
