Jo Anne Schakel

Jo Anne (Alfke) Schakel, age 85 of Greenfield, IN passed away on Monday, October 31, 2016 in Greenfield. She was born on October 23, 1931 to the late Henry and Helen (Geddes) Alfke. Jo Anne was a graduate of New Palestine High School and the House of James Beauty School. She married the love of her life Vernon C. Schakel on October 5, 1962. In her earlier years, she worked at Buckleys Restaurant. She also was a book keeper for Vernon C. Schakel Construction Co. and the co-founder of the Schakel Center & Bolts & Nuts of Hancock County. Surviving Jo Anne is her sister, Helen (Don) Valente; daughters, Sharon "Gussie" Schakel; Saundra L. (Donavon) Box; grandchildren, Aaron Michael; Kaylene Hunter; Brenden Christian; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and special family friends, Tom and Cheryl Harrison. She is preceded in death by her parents listed above; husband, Vernon C. Schakel; brothers, Hank and Bill; and sister, Mary. The family would like to especially thank the nursing staff at Community Healthy Heart Clinic (Mindy, Kelley & Andrea (CCC) for their compassionate care throughout the years. Visitation will be held from 4:00pm to 8:00pm on Friday, November 4, 2016 at Stillinger Family Funeral Home, Pasco Chapel of Greenfield, 1780 West Main Street, Greenfield, IN 46140. A funeral service will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, November 5, 2016 with visitation one hour prior to the service at Trinity Lutheran Church, 8540 E. 16th St. Indianapolis, IN 46219. Burial will immediately follow at Philadelphia Church Cemetery in Philadelphia.
