Joellen "Jody" R. (Ritter) Smith

"And when great souls die, after a period peace blooms…" Joellen 'Jody' (Ritter) Smith left this life on the morning of September 5, 2022. She was born on May 3, 1946, in Indianapolis, Indiana to Richard and Jorita (Kernal) Ritter. The eldest of seven children, she will remain a cherished daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, and friend.

She was a lifetime member of St. Michael Catholic Church and the Rosary Guild. After a dedicated 30-year career with Eli Lilly and Company, she retired and enjoyed playing cards every Tuesday at St. Michael's, serving her community, and participating in Red Hat Society gatherings.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 53 years, Jon R. Smith; her two sons, Jon J. Smith and Joseph R. Tondro-Smith; son-in-law, Christian Sidwell; daughter-in-law, Dondi Tondro-Smith; and six siblings: Linda Huber (Stan), Tony Ritter (Barb), Jerry Ritter (Carol), Mary Roesinger (Jim), Danny Ritter (Pam) and Therese Inglert (John, deceased). She will also be missed by her only grandchild, Kaia Tondro-Smith; many cousins; nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews; and all who knew her.

Visitation will be on Monday, September 12, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Stillinger Family Funeral Home, 1780 West Main Street, Greenfield. A Mass of Christian burial will be on Tuesday, September 13, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Michael Catholic Church, 519 Jefferson Blvd, Greenfield.
