John W. Heumann left this Earth on September 4th, 2026, to be with his SAVIOR and one true love. He was born January 17, 1935, in Nebraska, to George and Dorothy Heumann.
He attended elementary school in the country and graduated from Blair High School in 1952. He attended two years of college in Nebraska. He began working for Corn State Laboratories, Inc., which eventually became Elanco under Eli Lilly. He married his high school sweetheart, Charlotte Mae Wright Heumann. They would have been married 70 years this past June 24th, 2026. John worked for Eli Lilly for 35 years. He retired in 1990 at the age of 55. His activities throughout life included softball, bowling, gardening, and farming. John shared his love for people through his work and devotion since 1968 at Old Bethel United Methodist Church.
He is preceded in death by his sweetheart Charlotte Mae Wright Heumann. She passed away on January 18th, 2009. They were married 52 years at the time of her death.
He is survived by his children, Dr. Gregory Heumann (Lori) of North Vernon, and Pamela Kinney of Indianapolis. He has seven grandchildren, Paula (Thad), Mark, Jennifer, Christine (Sanjay), Cassandra (Casey), Grant (Alex), and Jackson. He has five great grandsons, Graham, Lyle, Erik, Ethan, and Easton; four great granddaughters, Nichole, Maia, Nora and Natalie. He is further survived by his brother, Bill and his wife Janet Heumann of Provo, Utah. He would like to recognize Deborah Heumann, John Thullen, and Jared Kinney as co-parents of his grandchildren.
A visitation will be held on Friday, September 11, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Old Bethel United Methodist Church, 7995 E 21st St, Indianapolis, IN 46219. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m., followed by burial at Washington Park East Cemetery in Indianapolis, Indiana.
