John P. Perew, formerly of Greenfield, Indiana, a beloved figure who touched the lives of many, passed away at the age of 77 on Wednesday, May 20, 2026. He spent his final moments at the Halifax Medical Center in the serene surroundings of Daytona Beach, Florida. Born on September 29, 1948, in Ludwigshafen, Germany, John grew up with a strong sense of duty and adventure and graduated from Ludwigsburg High School in 1965.
John proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the tumultuous Vietnam War, a time that significantly shaped his character and resilience. Following his military service, he embarked on a successful career, contributing his talents to renowned companies such as Chrysler Corporation and La-Z-Boy. He also served as a Reserve Sheriff Deputy for the Hancock County Sheriff's Department.
He is lovingly remembered by his brother, R.W. “Bob” Perew (Lisa), his long-time partner, Fritzie Elek, and his children: Monika Gooding (Edward), Misty Wagoner (Chris), and John Perew (Roxanne). John's legacy also lives on through his eleven cherished grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy to his life. He was preceded in death by a great-grandchild, whose memory he held dear.
To honor John's remarkable life, a celebration will be held on Saturday, June 27, at VFW Post 2693, located at 529 Apple St., Greenfield, IN 46140. Friends and family are invited to gather from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM to pay tribute to his life and service, with Military Honors.
