Johnsie Tongate

Johnsie Tongate, age 83, of Greenfield, Indiana, passed away on December 30, 2019 at her residence surrounded by her loving family. She was born on February 20, 1936, to the late Dozier & Lillie Mae (Peele) Smith. Johnsie married the love of her life, Jerry R. Tongate, in 1956. Johnsie was a devoted member of th Pilgrim Holiness Church in Greenfield. She spent her career with United States post Office as Rural Letter Carrier until her retirement in 1996. Johnsie enjoyed going to church and cooking, going to her children's sporting events and fishing, but most of all spending time with her precious family who she loved dearly. Left to cherish Johnsie's memory are her children; George (Shawn) Tongate, John (Patti) Tongate, Richard Tongate & Margaret Whiteman; 13 Grandchildren; 13 Great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Johnsie is proceeded in death by her parents listed above, her husband Jerry, a son Jerry Wayne Tongate and 5 brothers & sisters. Visitation for Johnsie will be from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Monday January 6, 2020 at Stillinger Family Funeral Home, 1780 W. Main St, Greenfield, IN 46140. A Funeral Service will be at the funeral home on Tuesday January 7, 2020 at 10:00 AM. Burial will immediately follow the Funeral Service at Washington Park East Cemetery in Indianapolis.
