Joseph Lee Adams

November 10, 1931 — October 21, 2021

Joseph Lee Adams, age 89 of Greenfield, passed away October 21, 2021, in Indianapolis. He was born November 10, 1931, in Greenfield, to Albert Hurlston and Ocie Viola (Fansler) Adams. Joseph was a 1950, well-decorated athlete graduate of Greenfield High School. There, he mastered football, basketball, baseball, and track. He accepted a basketball scholarship to Lincoln Memorial for continued education. Six months into college, Joseph left to join the U.S. Navy. Following the Navy, Joseph and his first wife, Carol, started their family of five. Many will remember Joseph as being the owner/operator of AJ Plumbing & Heating. He operated the business for 45 dedicated years, before retiring. Because Joseph did not like to remain idle, he decided to then go to work as a school bus driver for Greenfield Central Schools. He worked there daily for 12 years and thoroughly enjoyed chauffeuring the school's athletic teams to their events. Joseph was a member and Elder of Greenfield Christian Church. He was active in his community as a former volunteer fire fighter, coach for the Babe Ruth Baseball League, was on the Trustee's Board of Directors for the Boys Club of Hancock County, and was a high school football and basketball official. He was very instrumental in creating the football program for the Boys Club. Joseph also ran for County Commissioner. In his younger years, he coached baseball for his sons. He loved the outdoors, joking with family and friends, bowling, and being creative as an artist. He even owned another business with his second wife, Ramona; R & J Services. Joseph and Ramona were members of Realife Church. Joseph is survived by his loving wife Ramona F. (McMichael) Adams of 17 years; his children: Cindy (Tom) Arnold, Joseph M. Adams, Dr. David (Dr. Cindy) Adams, Daniel (Lisa) Adams, and Julie (Brian) Crowley; step-children: Aubrey (Mark) Scutchfiled, Charles Clayton (Chelsea) Hancock, and Jessica Hancock; sisters: Myrtle Curtis and Pauline Bartle; 11 grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and faithful four-legged companion, Patch. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife and mother of is children, Carol (Carmichael) Adams; and siblings: Dorothy Felt, Albert Adams, and Walter Adams.
