Joyce Howard Petry

Joyce Howard Petry, age 100 passed away Friday, August 26, 2022, at Golden Living Center, Brandywine. She was born November 27, 1921, in Hartzell, Missouri to the late Cornelius and Gladys (Gillespie) Howard. She was a graduate of Carthage High School and married Quentin Petry on December 20, 1941. Prior to her retirement in 1988, Joyce was the dietary supervisor at Hancock Regional Hospital. Joyce was a long-time member of the Stringtown (New Hope) Nazarene Church. She was an avid quilter, making numerous quilts for family and friends over the years and teaching her daughters to carry on the tradition. She is survived by her daughters; Karen (Robert) DeRenard, Janis (Roy) Blessinger, Evelyn (Wayne) Sammons, Elaine (Philip) Steele; daughters-in law, Kay Petry and Elizabeth Petry; grandsons, Warren Petry, Scott Petry, Brad Petry, John DeRenard, Roy M. Blessinger, Eric Sammons, Troy Sammons, Gabriel Petry, Alexander Petry, and Q. Elliott Petry; granddaughters, Diane Cameron, April Keffeber, and Susan Spaeth; 31 great grandchildren, 12 great great grandchildren; sister, Sue Reeves, and brother, Manuel Howard. Joyce is preceded in death by her parents, mentioned above; husband, Quentin Petry; sons, Dahl Petry, Lowell Petry, Gary Petry, and Harold Petry; grandchildren, Stephen Petry and Heather Petry; siblings, Kip, Bill, Arnold, and Archie Howard and Willa Carrender. Funeral service with Elizabeth Petry officiating will be 12:00 pm, Thursday, September 1, 2022, at Stillinger Family Funeral Home, 1780 West Main Street, Greenfield, Indiana 46140. Friends may call from 10:00 am until the time of service. Burial immediately following at Carthage Town Cemetery, Carthage.
