Larry Keith Myers, 83, Indianapolis, passed away at home with his loving family by his side on Thursday, January 23, 2025. Larry was born on February 5, 1941, in Huntington, WV, to William N. and Myrtle (McComas) Myers. He is a 1959 graduate of East Huntington High School. Immediately following graduation, Larry enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. On October 6, 1961, he married the love of his life, Frances A. Garten.
Larry was the backbone, the provider, the protector, and the hero for his family. All looked up to him for advice, guidance, and a shoulder to lean on. He loved Western movies, was quite a jokester, enjoyed hunting, and was an avid bowler back in the day. Larry secured his career with the government by staying active in the military for 22 years, lastly working as a Tech Sergeant. Often uprooting for employment, he and Frances moved the family around to places such as Alaska, Tiawan, Michigan, and California. As Larry could not sit still after retirement, he went to work as a police officer for Butler University. He even joined forces with the West District of IMPD. Larry graduated at the top of his class, at age 50. He enjoyed 15 years working as an officer. And if those two employments were not enough, Larry put his police officer skills to work by working security for IU Health for 10 years in their finance building.
Larry is survived by his loving children: Patti Myers, Jennifer Rooney, Michael (Jennifer) Myers, and Anita Dureich; grandchildren: Jessica (April) Breedlove, Lindsey Myers (Chase Gamble), Kaylin Myers, Chelsea Myers, Morgan Myers, Nathaniel Myers, Sydney (Reed) Collins, Jadon Myers, Kayleigh Matthews, Zachary Matthews, Ty Ongley, Brandy (Jason) Cormier, and Kelley (Matthew) Cawood; 21 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Frances A. Myers of 60 years; son, Larry Keith Myers II; and 6 siblings.
