LeAnn
Blackwell
Oct 27, 1943 — Oct 21, 2026
New Palestine, Indiana
Thursday
Washington Park East Cemetery
Starts at 1:15 pm (Eastern time)
LeAnn Blackwell, 82 and former Carmel Indiana resident, went home to be her Lord and family members on Wednesday, October 21, 2026 at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana. She was well cared for not only by them, but staff at Traditions of Columbus and caregivers from Griswold Care for Seniors.
She was born a triplet on October 27, 1943 along with her sister SuAnn and brother, Keith (Buddy) while her dad was deployed to the South Pacific during WWII. Her mom was fortunate to have the help of her mother during that time and dad was finally able to meet them when they were nine months old. The three maintained a tight-knit connection throughout their lives and loved each other deeply.
LeAnn graduated from Warren Central High School, received her Bachelor's degree from Ball State University and her Master's in Education from Indiana University. She taught third and fifth grades, mostly in the Lawrence Township School system for 30 years. She and her sister also taught K-2 Sunday school for many years. Following her retirement, she stepped in as caregiver for her ailing father and later for her brother, and lastly for her sister.
She is survived by cousins, Alan (Peggy) Ross, and Candyce (Tim) McDonough and many, life-long friends. She was preceded in death by parents Keith Grant and Euva (Sullivan) Blackwell and siblings, SuAnn Blackwell Whitaker and Keith Allen Blackwell.
LeAnn had a very distinctive style. She had Disney princess long blond hair that turned a beautiful shade of silver as she aged, long cardigans with pockets over brightly colored, patterned blouses, black slacks, and black ballerina slip-ons.
She carried her love of reading in the classroom (favorite book being Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs) to her leisure time by reading best sellers and belonging to a book club, perusing magazines and studying the Bible in depth though BSF. Watching old movies with a bowl of popcorn and drinking her daily diet cokes, having Fox News playing continually in the background to keep her company was also LeAnn's habit. She thought Trey Gowdy was incredibly handsome! She attended craft activities, enjoyed Word Find puzzles and wrote poetry.
Spending time with family and friends was a great love of LeAnn's: attending the Indianapolis Symphony performances, going to the theater, playing cards in a long time Euchre group, being a member of Alpha Chi Sorority, and hosting meals while using just the right set of dishes (of which she had many) and table settings and décor to set the theme and mood. She also was a great card sender- not just Christmas but Easter, Halloween, Thanksgiving etc. She will be remembered for her gentleness, kindness, unselfishness and thoughtfulness, known for always asking, "Is there anything I can do to help?". She will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm on Thursday, October 29, 2026 at Stillinger Family Funeral Home, Hendryx Chapel, 11636 E. Washington Street, Cumberland, IN. Funeral services to follow at 12:00pm. Burial will follow at Washington Park Cemetery East, Indianapolis. Memorial contributions may be sent to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana, Columbus, IN or Radiant Christian Life Church, Westfield, IN
