Louanna (Haney) Canter

Louanna (Haney) Canter, age 76, of Greenfield, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, surrounded by family. Louanna was born in Shelbyville, Indiana on April 17, 1948, to Russell Neil Haney and Maisy F. (Burrow) Haney. Louanna was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Richard P. Canter, who she married on February 16, 1974.


Louanna is survived by her niece, Barbara (Robert) Riddle; nephew, Joe (Heather) Haney; their children: Keegan Riddle, Kira (Henry) Schnabel, Caleb (Lauren) Riddle, Michael Haney, and Rebecca Haney; cousins: David (Lin) Holmes, Jane (Mike) Walker, Debbie Kuntz, and Calvin (Connie) Foust; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Jim Demaster, Daniel (Loretta) Canter, Dennis (Pam) Canter, Douglas (Rebecca) Canter, David (Diane) Canter, Duane (Fran) Canter, Denise (Jeff) Canter Rollings, Donald (Brenda) Canter, and Devon Canter; 18 additional nieces and nephews; step-aunt, Carol Fletcher; many step-cousins; lifelong friend, Kathy Clift; and her beloved African grey parrot, BG.


In addition to her husband Richard, Louanna was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Clinton (Melva) Haney; nephew, John Haney; cousin, Linda Foust Campton; and sister-in-law, Cora Sue Haney-Demaster.


After graduating from Greenfeld High School in 1966, Louanna began working for Fort Harrison DFAS in various clerical and administrative roles for many years. After retiring, Louanna and Richard moved to the Florida Keys, where they lived for 22 years before returning to Greenfield in 2018. Louanna loved life in the Keys, enjoying beautiful sunsets, fresh seafood, and time spent with friends. Louanna also enjoyed time spent with extended family and bowling with family and friends. Louanna was a devoted and loving wife, a great daughter, sister, and aunt, and a friend to many. She had a caring and lively personality and will be sorely missed.


Visitation will be on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Stillinger Family Funeral Home, 1780 West Main Street, Greenfield. The funeral service will be held the following day, also at the funeral home, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor David Wise officiating. Burial will follow in Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hancock Regional Hospital Foundation, 801 North State Street, Greenfield, IN 46140.
