March 4, 1939 – April 1, 2025
With sadness, we announce the passing of Marlene Harriet (Mayerle) Swegman on April 1, 2025, at the age of 86. A devoted wife, loving mother, cherished grandmother, and dear friend, Marlene's life was filled with love, kindness, and an unwavering commitment to family.
Born on March 4, 1939, Marlene grew up in Greenfield, where she graduated from Greenfield High School. She enjoyed her Home Economics classes and was an active member of the Girls' Athletic Association. She married the love of her life, Tim Swegman, and together they shared 64 wonderful years before his passing in 2022. In 1997, Marlene and Tim moved from New Palestine to Kettering, Ohio, to be closer to their daughter and her family, a decision that brought them many years of cherished memories.
Marlene was a dedicated homemaker and stay-at-home mom, embracing her role with love and creativity. Throughout her life, she found joy in gardening, flower arranging, sewing, and crafting—her artistic touch evident in everything she did.
She was friendly and talkative, never knowing a stranger. Her ability to connect with people made her a joy to be around. One of her greatest joys was playing peek-a-boo with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, teaching them their colors and numbers with patience and love.
Marlene was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Tim, her twin sister, Charlene (Mayerle) Bull, her brother, Alfred "Buzz" Mayerle, and her parents, Alfred and Elouise Mayerle. She is survived by her loving daughter, Lorrie (Jim) Kohls, her grandson, Kevin (Shelby) Kohls, her granddaughter, Lauren (Tyler) Darden, and her precious great-granddaughters, Bexley, Maelyn, and one more expected in October.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2025, from 10:00 am to 10:30 am at the Stillinger Family Funeral Home- Hendryx New Palestine Chapel (19E Main Street, New Palestine, IN 46163).
