Martha Mae (Cupp) Hammons, 87, Greenfield, passed into the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, May 4, 2025, as her loved ones stood close. Martha was born on January 22, 1938, in Richmond, IN, one of eight children to parents Charles and Gladys (Napier) Cupp. Martha married the love of her life, Sam C. Hammons, on December 1, 1955.
Martha was a witness and servant of the Lord and praised his actions and words to everyone she knew. She was a longtime member of Faith Apostolic Church. Second to faith, was her love of family. She was a farmer's wife for many years. She enjoyed milking the cows, canning vegetables, yet became a bit uneasy when the cows broke their surrounds, and she needed to chase after them. Sam and she welcomed five beautiful children into their home. She was the matriarch of the family, as well as the confidante to her children when they needed advice or prayer. She sewed clothing for herself and the girls, made crafts to sell at church to earn some additional monies, loved to read, especially the Bible every day, and enjoyed quilting. When her grandchildren and great-grandchildren came, they were the apples of her eyes. In addition to being a farmer's wife, Martha also worked as the bookkeeper for their business S & M Auto Services, at RCA in the factory, Brandywine Nursing Home as a CNA, and at Greenfield's Walmart as a pharmacy technician for 20+ years, before retiring in 2007. Martha earned her GED while one of her children also graduated from high school. She furthered her education by taking pharmacy tech classes to become certified to work in the pharmacy department.
Martha is survived by her loving children: Sharon Adams, Steven (Gina) Hammons, Shelley (Tony) Campbell, Brian (Sherry) Hammons, and Samuel Jason (Tamra) Hammons; 21 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; brother, Clayton (Lynda) Cupp; sisters, Mildred (Samuel) Clark and Mary (Winston) Boyd; sisters-in-law, Marlene Riggs and Annalee Riggs; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Sam of 55 years; brothers, Charles Cupp and James Cupp; and sisters, Maxine Jones and Linda Bruce.
