Mary "Jean" Gardner September 28, 1930 - July 17, 2014 Mary "Jean" (Padgett) Gardner, 83 of Knightstown formerly of Greenfield. Passed away on Thursday July 17, 2014 at The Springhurst Health Campus in Greenfield. She was born on September 28, 1930 in Washington, Indiana, the daughter of the late Orbie Leo and Anna Mary (Jones) Padgett. Jean married Philip C. Gardner on August 18, 1951. She graduated from Greenfield High School in 1948, before going on and earning her certificate of Nursing from St. Vincents. Jean was a nurse before quitting to raise her family. She was very involved with the church, including many programs they offered, such as the St. Michaels Ladys Club and volunteering in the library at St. Michaels. She was also very involved in the Meals on Wheels program, as well as being an avid bridge player. Jean is survived by her sons, Stephen Gardner of Bloomington and Dennis Gardner of Mesa, AZ; daughters; Sally (Roger) Campbell of Knightstown and Jane (John) Constantine of Greenfield; her brother, Joe (Lee) Padgett of Greenfield; 11 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, Jean is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Philip C. Gardner; and brothers, Jim and John Padgett. Funeral Mass will be on Tuesday July 22, 2014 at 11:00 am at the St. Michael Catholic Church 513 North Jefferson Street Greenfield, Indiana 46140, with burial to follow at Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 pm on Monday July 21, 2014 at the Stillinger Family Funeral Home Pasco Chapel 1780 West Main Street Greenfield, Indiana, 46140. Memorial donations can be made in memory of Jean to the Lewy Body Dementia and Parkinsons Association, 912 Killian Hill Rd S.W., Kilburn, GA 30047.
