Mary V. Koonce, 87, of Greenfield passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at the Ellison House, Greenfield. She was born December 9, 1928 in Detroit, MI to the late Peter and Anna (Horak) Stokich. Mary married Donald Koonce on January 22, 1949. They moved to Greenfield in 1960 and raised their family. Prior to her retirement she worked for Hancock Memorial Hospital for 30 years. She was a member of the F.O.P #140, American Legion Auxiliary, Post #119, Sigma Beta Rho Sorority and participated in the Post #119 "Little Players" for many years. More than anything she loved her family and enjoyed traveling with them, especially the Gulf Shores and boat trips. Friends and family will remember her spunky attitude, her great sense of humor and her willingness to always tell it like it is. She is survived by daughters, Valerie Hopper (Tony Mayhugh), Diane Jackson, both of Greenfield; sister, Jane Dobies of San Diego, CA; grandchildren, Heather (Marc) Huber, Holly Jackson, Hilaire Chittum, Christine Roberts, Joshua Jackson and great grandchildren, Mallory Harrison, Macy Huber, Jaxson Miller and Colten Chittum. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Don Koonce in 2010 and son in law Ronald Hopper. Friends may call 11 am 2 pm, with funeral service at 2 pm, Friday, January 29, 2016 at Stillinger Family Funeral Home, Pasco Chapel, 1780 West Main Street, Greenfield, Indiana 46140. Burial immediately following at Park Cemetery, Greenfield. Memorial contributions in honor of Mary may be made to the Hancock Regional Hospital Foundation, Endowment Fund, 801 North State, Greenfield, Indiana 46140 or Meals on Wheels Hancock County, 1133 West Main, Ste. C, Greenfield.
