Mary Elva Lee

Mary Elva Lee, 87 years, a resident of Indianapolis, passed away Wednesday, April 7, 2026 at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis. She was born October 17, 1938, in New Palestine, Indiana to the late William Glen and Louella (Mitchell) Hanes.

Mary was a graduate of McCordsville High School and retired from Eli Lilly Credit Union as a teller after 39 years of service. She loved to travel around the United States, take cruises to place such as the Bahamas and Alaska, she was an avid card player playing, Euchre, Rummy, and 5 Crowns. Above all, she enjoyed caring for infants and especially loved spending time with her nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Survivors include her son, Mark Anthony Staggs, sister, Loretta Ann Shaw, several, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents listed above, brothers, Charles Hanes and Harold Sidney Hanes.

Visitation will be 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm Monday, April 13, 2026 at Stillinger Family Funeral Home, Hendryx Cumberland Chapel, 11636 E. Washington St, Indianapolis, IN 46229. Funeral service will be 10:00 am, Tuesday, April 14, 2026 at the funeral home with Micah Carpenter officiating. Burial will follow at New Palestine Cemetery, New Palestine, Indiana.
