Maryann (Haigerty) Skillern, 92, longtime resident of Indianapolis, passed away on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at Cumberland Trace, Plainfield. She was born on December 14, 1932, to Flavian L. and Genevieve E. (Gootee) Haigerty.
Maryann met her future husband, Kenneth G. Skillern, while both attending Arthur Murray Dance Studios. They married in 1955. Together they raised a busy family with 5 children. Maryann and Kenneth continued to dance throughout their lives. She was an avid reader, loved to bowl, loved cats, and played in a euchre club. Maryann was a sales associate with Burlington Coat Factory on the east side of Indianapolis for many years. She was an established member with St. Philip Neri Catholic Church before becoming a member of Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church.
Maryann is survived by her children: Barbara McGary, Steve Skillern, Kathy (Joe) Metelko, Lisa Johnson, and Janis (Michael) Andrews; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kenneth, of 51 years; and siblings: John Haigerty, Jean Manley, and Charles Haigerty.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, June 26, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, 89 North 17th Avenue, Beech Grove, IN with Father Bob Robeson officiating. Entombment will be in Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Indianapolis. Due to Maryann's love for cats, memorial contributions may be made to the Misty Eyes Animal Center, 616 South County Road 800 East, Avon, IN 46123.
