Maureen Margaret (Fitzgerald) Arterberry, 67, Fairland, passed into the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, with her loving family by her side, on Monday, July 8, 2024.
Maureen was born on February 6, 1957, in Indianapolis, IN, to Kenneth and Martha Jo (Hadley) Fitzgerald. She is a 1975 graduate of Lawrence Central High School. She continued her studies at Indiana University by obtaining a bachelor's degree in liberal arts in 1980. She married Ross M. Arterberry in May 2014.
Maureen's first love goes to the Lord Jesus Christ as she had been a dedicated and faithful servant of the Catholic faith for many years. She had attended Nativity Catholic Church since 1988. Maureen's second love had been exemplified through her strong dedication to family and friends. She loved unconditionally, was extremely loyal, and gave herself fully. She would do anything for anyone and was loved by many. She had lifelong friends in Karen & Rich Kohlmann and Betsy Wentworth, and she cherished the time she spent with those she loved most, including her work family.
Maureen loved taking girlfriend trips to Lake Michigan and was very involved in her work community events and parties. She helped raise and nurture her nephew Neil for many years and openly invited Ross's mother to her home. Maureen's third love was dedicated to sporting events. Until her illness, she attended every Indy 500 event since 1969, was an avid water skier, and loved to play tennis and was also on a league for many years.
Additionally, Maureen loved Neil Diamond, enjoyed staying at home, but loved to go out to eat, and enjoyed live music. For 30 years, Maureen was a member of management at Braeburn Village Apartments on Indianapolis's east side. There, she also wore many hats that allowed her to become family to a majority of the tenants, coordinate community parties, and dress up for holiday events. Maureen will be missed by many.
She is survived by her loving husband Ross of 10 years; his children, Kristina (Ryan Wynder) Arterberry and Trevor Arterberry; brothers, Jim Fitzgerald II and Ed Fitzgerald; stepbrother, Roy Coopman; brother-in-law Tom Kennard; sister-in-law Amy Arterberry; Grandchildren Ryan and Raelee; niece and nephews: Neil (Tracey) Fitzgerald, Kenneth (Donna) Fitzgerald III, Kelly (Rick) Richmond, Charlie, and Miguel; stepmother, Clara Fitzgerald; and mother-in-law, Joyce Arterberry.
Maureen was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Kathleen Smith.
Visitation will be on Friday, July 12, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at Nativity Catholic Church, 7225 Southeastern Avenue, Indianapolis, with a Catholic Funeral Mass and Burial to immediately follow, with Father Eric Augenstein officiating.
