Melvin Ray Collis Jr.

Melvin Ray Collis, Jr., 75, of Greenfield, Indiana, passed away on Monday, August 24, 2026, at Hancock Regional Hospital. He was born on December 4, 1950, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to the late Melvin Collis, Sr. and Helen (Thurston) Collis.

Melvin had a lifelong passion for cars, which extended from his hobbies to his career. He was a dedicated employee for Riley Park Tire, where he worked as an Alignment Technician for over thirty years. When he wasn’t working on cars, Melvin’s free time was spent racing, particularly at Mt. Lawn Speedway in New Castle, Indiana, and the Anderson Speedway in Anderson, Indiana. Alongside racing, his other passion was spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife of over thirty years, Cheryl Collis; six children, Peggy Moore, Melvin (Tina) Collis III, Lillie Harwood, Calvin Collis, Kandace Armstrong, and Patty Bryan; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild on the way; seven siblings, Myron, Norman, Ray, David, James, Carey, and Elvin; his step-mother, Sandra; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Melvin is preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Savannah Kortz; two siblings, Rose Merrell and Marvin Collis; and the mother of his children, Wanda Collis.

A visitation will be held on Friday, August 28, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Stillinger Family Funeral Home, Pasco Chapel, 1780 W. Main St., Greenfield, Indiana 46140. The funeral service will follow at 12:00 p.m., followed by burial at Park Cemetery in Greenfield, Indiana.
