Michael K. Howell

Michael “Mike” K. Howell, 51, of Greenfield, Indiana, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, September 20, 2026, at his residence. He was born on September 2, 1975, to David W. Howell and Debra A. (Roberts) Howell.

Mike was a 1994 graduate of Eastern Hancock High School. He later attended Vincennes University, where he earned a degree in Law Enforcement.

From 1995 to 1997, Mike faithfully served as a full-time proselyting missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the England Bristol Misson, serving throughout southwest England and Wales. His faith continued to be an important part of his life. Over the years, Mike served faithfully in many church callings, including primary teacher, Sunday school teacher, young men president, elder’s quorum counsel and president, as well as clerk to the bishop.

On August 9, 1997, Mike married his high school sweetheart, Linda Marie Nielson, in the Portland Oregon Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Together, Mike and Linda built a life centered on faith, family, and their belief in eternal marriage.

In 2006, Mike and Linda welcomed their daughter, Natalie Rose. Becoming a father was one of the greatest joys of Mike’s life. He loved being a dad, and his love for Natalie was immeasurable. He treasured spending time with her, whether they were building LEGOs, playing games, sharing the things they loved, or simply being together.

Mike was employed by Newfields as a Senior Security Officer from 2008 until the time of his passing. During his many years there, he became a well-liked and respected member of the Newfields community and formed relationships with many of the people with whom he worked.

In his leisure time, Mike was an avid sports fan, particularly of Indiana University and Chicago sports teams. However, more than anything, Mike was a family man. He loved spending time with his family and playing games, especially his daughter, nieces, and nephews. He could often be found attending their games and events, proudly cheering them on from the sidelines.

Mike also had a passion for reading, enjoyed building LEGOs with Natalie, and was a devoted Star Wars fan. He found happiness in the simple things; time spent with the people he loved, a good book, a game to watch, something to build, and opportunities to be together as a family.

Mike is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Linda Marie Howell; his beloved daughter, Natalie Rose Howell; his mother, Debby Howell; and his three sisters, Shauna (Lance) Williams of Spanish Fork, Utah, Sarah (Ryan) Griesemer of Zionsville, Indiana, and Stephanie (Randy) Reeves of Greenfield, Indiana.

He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Rosemary Nielson of Washougal, Washington; brothers-in-law, David Nielson of Portland, Oregon, and Dean and Leo Nielson, both of Washougal, Washington; as well as his sister-in-law, Ami (Steve) Miller of Gastonia, North Carolina.

Mike is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Brandon Robinson, Jordon Petrich, Sarah Drewry, Storm, Gunnar, Scout, and Rouge Williams, Gray and Johanna Griesemer, and Lincoln and Lyla Reeves; his aunts, Pamela Gwinnup of Greenfield, Indiana, and Kathy (Dave) Tuck of Nampa, Idaho; his uncles, John (Sandy) Howell of Antioch, Illinois, and John (Jennifer) Roberts of Mapleton, Utah; as well as many cousins and extended family who loved him dearly.

Mike was preceded in death by his father, David W. Howell; his infant nephew, Hunter Petrich; his father-in-law, Nolan Nielson; his brother-in-law, Larry Robinson; and his aunts and uncles, Jim and Mary Ellen Howell, Dennis Howell, Dave and Jane Eaks, and Kevin Howell.

Mike will be remembered for his faith, his quiet devotion to his family, and the many ways he showed his love simply by being there. He was a loving husband, a devoted father, a beloved son and brother, a proud uncle, a trusted coworker, and a friend to many.

Although his passing came far too soon, Mike’s family takes comfort in the faith that shaped his life and his home. Mike and Linda were sealed together in the temple for time and all eternity, and their family holds firmly to the promise that their separation is not forever.

Mike was deeply loved. He will be profoundly missed, and his influence will continue in the lives of the family and friends who were blessed to know and love him.

A visitation will be held on Friday, September 25, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Stillinger Family Funeral Home, Pasco Chapel, Greenfield, Indiana, 46140. A funeral service will be held the following day, Saturday, September 26, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Bishop Homer officiating. Burial will follow in Park Cemetery in Greenfield, Indiana.
